By Michael Feldman

It’s been over 25 years since David Byrne and Brian Eno collaborated together on an album. Since then these artists have grown in truly dynamic ways. However, on this year’s Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, they hearken back to the pop aesthetics that made them both famous. Byrne has always been an ingenious songwriter and tracks like “Life is Long”, “Wanted For Life” and “Strange Overtones” are no exception. The combination of Byrne’s quasi choir-like voice and Eno’s exquisitely warm electronic production turns each song into a mini-gospel. That label is fitting considering the sound and the personal, reflective subject matter that make up these songs. It is something that keeps the music down to earth, yet its overabundance becomes tiring. It is certainly inspiring that two artists, who have been pushing the envelope of pop music for going on 30 years, can make a record that sounds this current and has this much zeal. Despite its reflective nature, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, like its title suggests, is fully conscious of the present.  (Self-Released)
