Yohji Yamamoto at the V&A

London's Victoria and Albert Museum opens a stunning exhibit featuring the works of this prolific designer

LONDON - The Victoria and Albert Museum is a gorgeous tribute to design. Standing proudly in Kensington's historic Museum Row, the V&A is a powerhouse for the practical arts. They always have beautifully curated fashion exhibits, with collaborations with designers, editors, and stylists. Their latest endeavor features the designs of Yohji Yamamoto, the japanese avant-garde genius.

Yamamoto is world-renowned for the juxtaposition of unusual architecture with classic japanese textiles. He's also a favorite of journalists Grace Coddington and Lynn Yaeger. The 68-year-old got into fashion after studying Law in Tokyo. He showed his first collection in Paris in 1981 but is best known for his collaboration with Adidas and the brand Y-3, a hybrid fashion-meets-athletics label.

The exhibit contains over 60 looks, in both men's and women's wear, as well as a plethora of runway videos and interviews. It's all held in a gleaming white box, which feels more like a runway venue then a Victorian-age museum. It was captivating to see such a well done fashion retrospective, if you're in London now through July 10th I highly recommend seeing this.
