Tsunami Rising at Kung Fu Necktie

Tsunami Rising (rock/ska/punk) at Kung Fu Necktie: February 16th

Tsunami Rising, a band from just over the bridge in New Jersey, is not a band for easy listening Sundays. Good thing they only play those shows in the summer on the decks and boardwalks of the Jersey Shore when they can let the more reggae side of their sound show a little more. The band is one of those tricky hybrid bands that have assaulted modern music so much in the past ten years. When describing their sound, one is forced to use more commas than an editor trying to break up a Jack Kerouac manuscript.

Tsunami Rising: rock, reggae, ska, punk, progressive, dance hall…

The band has been doing their convoluted, but incredibly likeable and infectious musical thing since 2003 and has seemingly played every bar and club in the greater Philadelphia area. Over the years, their sound has tightened up so effectively that one of their songs can effortlessly jump from style to style without it being the least bit jarring.

Lead by lead singer Drew Daniels, the four-piece band has toured relentlessly in an old church van up and down the winding and congested roads of the Mid-Atlantic and this summer pulled off a five-week stint in Ireland. They are currently working on their third album and shooting for a release date sometime this spring.

Catch Tsunami Rising at Kung Fu Necktie in Fishtown Thursday February 16th with John, The Click Clack Boom and Mo Lowda and the Humble. To listen to the band, check out www.tsunamirisingband.com.
