The City Turned Vogue
by Priscilla WardThe city looked dapper this week as Philly Fashion Week (PFW) turned sidewalks into runaways for twelve days. PFW reached the vast market of designers, makeup artist, hair stylist, and various fashion industry executives in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Rookies schooled up and coming artist on the reality of the fashion industry. Fashion shows, trunk shows, and panel discussions took place at 75 different venues across the city. We learned about the business behind branding, as well as the knitty gritty legal texture of the business. Jeffrey Campbell creations, vintage sweaters, vibrant colors, and bold animal prints were showcased in the 18th annual moble fashion show at the Shops at Liberty Place. Moor College of Art and Design and Philadelphia Art Institute students showcased their work at a swank outdoor fashion show along with seasoned designers. Fashion and poetry met in a “swaged out” show in Northern Liberties. PFW was produced by Kevin Parker and Kerry Scott, making its first debut in 2007. Their vision is not only to provide exposure to local and national models, designers, but to continue to be a nationally recognized and a respected event.
