Japan Fashion Week Canceled

by Max McCormack
Organizers announce the cancelation of their biannual runway tradition after the massive tsunami.

The organizers of the 12th annual Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo announced they would be canceling the events after last week's deadly tsunami. According to WWD, most designers have indefinitely postponed their shows. The news should come as no shock as shows were supposed to take place next week. The tragedy has caused retailers' stocks to tank in the island nation and, much like 9/11 here, I'm sure it will take a few years for this fashion capital to get back on its feet.

I'm sure Naomi Campbell is already planning a Fashion for Relief event and Lady Gaga is already selling "We Pray for Japan" bracelets. And of course, the Red Cross and other accredited charities are asking for donations. Everyone can help, visit Red Cross or Unicef to see how.
