Art After 5

 What:   Diverse jazz and world music artists perform this spring in Art After 5 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Each Friday evening, the Museum’s Great Stair Hall becomes a concert hall, complete with cocktails, elegant café-style appetizers, and desserts. Art After 5 features emerging and established jazz performers, with forays on the first Friday of each month into other musical genres. Between sets visitors have a chance to explore the Museum’s galleries and special exhibitions. On this Friday, smooth jazz and R&B vocalist Kevin Valentine will dish out some soul-infused jazz standards and more modern tunes.

Cost:   $14 for adults, $12 for senior citizens, $10 for students with ID, free for children 12 and under

What: In its third exhibition of Fleisher Art Memorial's Wind Challenge series, Challenge 3 showcases the work of three talented artists. Johanna Inman will be showing old photographs focusing on disregarded books and highlighting the subtleties of time and decomposition; Yvonne Lung will show a video installation based on stories told to her by Chinese immigrants and Constantina Zavitsanos will be showing unique, engaging sculptures. Gallery hours are 11AM - 5PM.

East Asian Art

What: This two part exhibit highlights similar art themes across neighboring cultures. The first part features Korean screen paintings with notable Chinese narratives like General Guo Ziyi’s Banquet and the Hundred Children. These images are presented alongside Chinese ceramics of the Qing dynasty (1616–1912).

What: The Fridays in June concert series at Cianfrani Park is bringing back the blues tonight as the Philadelphia Blues Messengers are set to play, weather permitting. If you're a fan of G.Love and eclectic bands, bring your friends and a blanket and lie in the green grass for a night of relaxation and melodic blues. Check out a sample of their music here.

What: Travel to the Middle East with Sir Richard Bishop & His Freak of Araby Ensemble as he makes his first solo appearance with a band to perform his Middle Eastern style music from beginning to end. Sir Richard will be accompanied by the modern jazz rocker band Oaxacan and Jack Rose, who is straight from Philadelphia's own nook, Kensington.
